The California Black Health Network (CBHN) is the only Black-led, state-wide organization dedicated to advocating for health equity for all Black (African Americans and Black Immigrants) Californians. CBHN’s mission is to ensure that all Black Californians, regardless of their education, socioeconomic class, zip code, sexual orientation, gender identity, homelessness, or immigration status, have access to high quality and equitable primary and behavioral healthcare, and avoid unnecessarily succumbing to disease. CBHN conducts outreach, education, and advocacy to achieve health equity for Black Californians through the lens of understanding critical issues that lie at the intersection of racial justice, social justice, and environmental justice.

Position Summary:

CBHN is seeking to hire an experienced and passionate individual to lead/manage its health education programs and initiatives. The Health Education Program Manager will have responsibility for overseeing CBHN’s Health Equity sessions, the Health4Life series, professional development for the Black Health Network members, and other relevant education programs that are required to address health literacy in the Black community.

The ideal candidate for this role is an innovative and creative experienced professional with knowledge of developing, organizing, and planning culturally relevant health education programs. In addition, the candidate should have knowledge of health equity/health disparities and how to improve health literacy of individual health consumers and providers. The Health Education Program Manager should have excellent organizational, strategic thinking, program design, planning, communication, and leadership skills. The Health Education Program Manager works in collaboration with the Executive Director on the ideation and planning for all health education events and ensures that all education programs operate efficiently. The Health Education Program Manager must have the ability to lead and manage multiple projects, and effectively manage programs to achieve goals and objectives, and meet any related key deliverables. In addition, the Health Education Program Manager is responsible for tracking/monitoring and evaluating health education programs, and reporting on program performance.

The Health Education Program Manager prepares budget proposals for new and core health education and related health programs; monitors program cost effectiveness; works with Executive Director to identify potential speakers and Subject Matter Experts, assesses public health and Black Health Network member education needs, designs or redesign programs and establishes program priorities; supervises the collection of data necessary to identify problems; coordinates the development and presentation of special conferences, meetings, health promotional programs and other educational programs; and serves as an internal consultant for other personnel conducting health education and health promotion activities.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Program Coordination
• Plan, organize, implement and evaluate health education programs;
• Plan, schedule and evaluate the work of others.
• Design and effectively use and evaluate health education methods and materials.
• Provide health education consultation and develop cooperative relationships with a wide range of individuals, groups, and stakeholders within the community.
• Prepare and present a variety of clear and concise written and oral reports.
• Plan, coordinate and implement health education related training programs.

Communications and Technology

• Exhibit relationship management skills such as proactively engage in and promote clear communication of information and needs within relationships.
• Critically evaluate diverse and complex sources of information, and identify strategies based on findings.
• Act decisively, engaging in timely and quality decision making.
• Create an atmosphere of respect, helpfulness, and cooperation, and provide effective coaching and development to staff to improve quality.
• Input, access and analyze data using a computer.
• Use reporting systems to manage program reporting and communications.
• Utilize and manage database and software tools.

Other:

• Report to Executive Director on a regular basis through scheduled meetings and participate in staff meetings.
• Coordinate special projects, assignments, and activities as requested.

Requirements/Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree or commensurate work experience.
• At least three years of experience managing health education programs.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment and with supervisor in a remote office, if necessary.
• Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet conflicting deadlines within a dynamic environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
• MPH Degree preferred but not required.
• A successful track record in health education program management.
• Possesses drive and initiative and can work autonomously with minimal supervision.
• Comfortable working with databases, analytical tools, and various online meeting platforms.
• Passionate about health equity and CBHN’s mission, programs, and relevant public policy issues.
• Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively and professionally with diverse staff, Board, constituents, and stakeholders.
• Comfortable working in a small office environment where hard work, a sense of humor, and flexibility are highly valued, if necessary.
• Knowledge of MS Office, MS Teams, program management tools, Zoom/Webex, etc.

Physical Requirements:
• Work is primarily sedentary with some light work.
• Must be able to exert or lift up to 20 pounds of force occasionally.
• Travel may be necessary up to 10%.

Position Summary:

CBHN is searching for a passionate individual to lead the development process of the Black
Health Agenda (BHA). The overall goal of the BHA process is to create a statewide plan to
address health disparities in the Black community. The BHA will identify the key
issues/challenges/barriers that prevent Black Californians from living long healthy lives, free from
violence, racism, and health inequities, and actionable solutions to improve the life expectancy of
Black Californians.

The BHA will be the first-ever, comprehensive state-wide plan to close the gap in health disparities for Black Californians. The plan will be developed based on primary and secondary evidence-based research with input from diverse groups of stakeholders, academicians, government agencies, policymakers, community-based non-profit organizations and healthcare centers, community health advocates, and individuals impacted by inequities at the community and system level, as well as social determinants of health.

The ideal candidate for this role should have superior project management and organizational skills, collaboration and exceptional research and data analysis capability. The BHA Project Manager leads and manages the research and data gathering process, design and development of the BHA under the leadership of the Executive Director and BHA project partners. that grant programs operate efficiently and oversees grant administration. The Grants Project Manager must have the ability to lead and manage multiple projects, and effectively implement grant projects to achieve goals and objectives, manage budgets and key deliverables. In addition, the Grants Project Manager is responsible for tracking grant project performance, analyzing data and outcomes, and assisting with the preparation of grant proposals.

Project Management

• Manage the research and BHA plan development process.
• Coordinate project activities with CBHN staff and community partners.
• Manage the development of reports including tracking progress for achieving the BHA objectives, drafting reports, and stakeholder input.
• Manage and maintain documentation and reporting documents for files.
• Manage and analyze evaluation indicators including BHA program events.
• Ensure BHA deliverables are completed on time.

Overview:

The California Pan-Ethnic Health Network (CPEHN) is seeking a full time Community Advocacy Manager focused on behavioral health. The Community Advocacy Manager is responsible for mobilizing CPEHN’s grassroots partners. This includes but is not limited to: managing CPEHN’s coalitions, organizing local events, providing research support for policy issues, managing behavioral health contracts, and participating in communications activities. They are responsible for maintaining efficient outreach, advocacy, and mobilization to support CPEHN’s policy agenda. The Community Advocacy Manager will work collaboratively with advocacy and policy staff to support CPEHN’s networks and grassroots partners to advance our behavioral health advocacy. This position may be based anywhere in California. CPEHN maintains physical offices in Oakland and Sacramento. CPEHN has a mandatory COVID-19 vaccine policy.

CPEHN is a statewide health policy organization focused on addressing racial and ethnic health disparities. CPEHN works closely with communities of color across the state to elevate local voices and health issues to state and local policymakers and help communities of color advance policy change and structural reform that creates equitable conditions for their communities. Compensation and Benefits:
